Hello and welcome!
My name is Katie Frey, I’m the Data Curator for Programmatic Access at Stanford University Libraries. I was formerly the Digital Technologies Development Librarian at the John G. Wolbach Library of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian. I specialize in developing online tools and digital technologies.
I earned a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Science in Astronomy from San Diego State University. I have also earned a Master of Liberal Arts, Digital Media Design from the Harvard University Extension School.
I am interested in enhancing access to information, especially new and novel types of information resources such as unstructured datasets, historical astronomical literature, and new tech devices. I enjoy building web applications and tools and I have previously lead development of the Unified Astronomy Thesaurus and Project PHaEDRA.
My favorite space exploration mission is Mars Pathfinder & Sojourner, though I have a special place in my heart for Voyager 1 and New Horizons. I love science fiction/fantasy books and movies, and would be more than happy to talk your ear off about my favorites. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my spouse and three cats (Luna, Nova, and Nebula).
